Day 2 of the EUSA Handball Championship: University of Porto and “Stefan cel Mare” came back and won after losing in the first half

Day 2 of the EUSA Handball Championship: University of Porto and “Stefan cel Mare” came back and won after losing in the first half The competiton has started! First game was played on 5th of July 2019. at 8.30 am (GTA+2) in Bydgoszcz. Men were those who played the first five matches. University Cologne (Germany)faced University of Porto (Portugal). In a very close duel University of Porto managed to keep their focus and won. Diego Coelho was the main option on the attack for them. He scored 11 goals. Final result of the game was 29:30 (17:13). University of Bochum (Germany) was defeated one goal difference after they were leading at the half time. “Stefan cel Mare” got the win and the result was 23:24 (12:11). University of Granada (Spain) defeated Norweigan University 32:14 (16:6). In this remarkable performance of the Spanish players almost every one of them scored at least a goal. University of Rijeka (Croatia) won the match against Akdeniz University (Turkey) 30:18 (13:9). Dino Islamović scored 6 goals and helped his teammates win the game. The last match on the male competition, but not least, was a clash between University of Minho (Portugal) and Serbian team – University “Union – Nikola Tesla”. Result of the match was 27:22 (14:9). One player that stoodout was Joao Rafael Peixoto who scored 10 goals.

 

Day 1

 

Diego Coelho, one of the best performers today, expressed his satisfaction with the win. “This game was very difficult because they have a good team with a lot of experienced players. German players are fast. We were losing at the beginning of the game, but we believed and we changed the score. We knew our weaknesses, but with our attitude and our strength we won. We were better during the game and we showed that at the end”, said Coelho.

 

Day 1

 

On the female side we also had 5 games. University of Bochum (Germany) won in a close-end match over Aix-Maresille University 27:26 (16:14). Maria Elena Kottman (University of Bochum) and Laura Pirello (Aix-Marseille University) scored 21 goals together. Kottman had 10 and Pirello had 11. Second match of the program for the ladies was between University of Hamburg (Germany) and University of Porto (Portugal). In another close tie German team won 29:27 (14:12). Even though Ana Gante and Carolina Monteiro (University of Porto) scored each 8 goals, obviosly that wasn’t enough for the victory. “Vincent Pol” University in Lublin defeated Norweigan University 36:18 (18:8). This was a stunning performance by all of the players. “Maria Curie – Sklodowska” University lost to University of Valencia 18:23 (9:12). Raquel Beltran Alonso (University of Valencia) played well and added up 8 goals to her sheet. The program for the ladies was closed after the match of the host, “Casimir the Great” University in Bygdgoszcz (Poland) and University of Zagreb (Croatia). The girls from Croatia successfully outcomed Polish ladies 23:38 (9:19). Josipa Bebek led the team to the victory scoring 8 goals.

 

Day 1

 

Katarzyna Kozimur, player of the “Vincent Pol” University in Lublin said that they came here to win this event. “We came here to win this tournament. In the past we won it two times, but if we win it now it would be the first time for me. This was the first game of the tournament for us, so we wanted to stay concentrated through the whole game. We tried to be good at defence and to score more goals on the fast breaks. You can see by the result the way we played, and I hope that we will do the same at the other games”, concluded Katarzyna. The competition continues on 6th of July at 9:00 am (GTA+2).
